The digital world offers incredible opportunities, but we understand that online safety can be a significant concern for people with a challenge or disability, as well as their parents and caregivers. At HKCC, our NDIS-funded Peer Support and Capacity Building program is built on the foundation of empowerment and well-being. We are deeply committed to working with and for individuals with a disability, their families, and their loved ones to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to navigate the online world safely and confidently.
As part of this commitment, we are delighted to partner with Me Plus More to offer their highly regarded, Commonwealth Government-funded training program, Digital Safety 1st. This comprehensive program is specifically designed to address the unique challenges faced by our community and provide practical, accessible strategies for staying safe online. We are integrating this crucial training into our term-based offerings, beginning with Topic 1 (consisting of 4 valuable lessons) in Term 1 2026. Topics 2 and 3 will follow in Term 2, ensuring participants receive a complete and thorough foundation in digital safety. Participants will need to attend/complete all modules and topics over Terms 1 and 2.
While 'Digital Safety 1st' is an excellent, free offering under our grant, we view it as a central component of a broader, sustained effort to support digital literacy and capacity building. Through our NDIS grant, we are dedicated to offering a range of free leisure-based programs each term and monthly community events. These activities, alongside the Me Plus More training, provide a holistic and supportive environment where participants can build social connections, develop new skills, and thrive both online and in the community.

This will be facilitated by HKCC Peer Support and everyone who enrols is welcome to bring with them a parent/support worker or caregiver (the supports do not need to register for the training). Although training is offered online, we will work on it together in our computer room, so that everyone can feel supported.
On completion of this training, participants will be offered the next phase - further training on online content creation and how to build a safe online community that the PwD can participate within, with parents and caregivers at ease about their involvement.
We are proudly delivering projects for the Peer Support and capacity Building (PSCB) grant for the NDIS.
