Full Day Sewing Workshop –Make a Simple Top

Ready to take the next step in your sewing journey? This full-day workshop is perfect for students who have completed our Beginners Sewing Course/ Workshop (or are already confident using a sewing machine) and are keen to start making garments.

In this class, you’ll learn key sewing skills, including how to:

• Choose the correct pattern size and take measurements
• Sew darts for shaping
• Staystitch
• Under stitch
• Sew and clip curves
• Apply neck and hem facings
• Sew a narrow hem
• Construct a garment from start to finish

Together, we’ll sew the Verdun Woven T-Shirt by Liesl & Co. This simple, stylish drop shoulder top is a great introduction to garment sewing. While the pattern is not unisex, everyone is warmly welcome to join and build essential sewing techniques that can be used in future projects. This top would also make a great gift for a friend or relative.

By the end of the day, you’ll walk away with a handmade top and the confidence to take on your next project. 

What to Bring:

• Sewing machine (in good working order), power cord and foot pedal or you can hire one from the college (numbers are limited, so let us know early).
• Fabric (as per pattern requirements – guidance will be provided before the class)
• Matching thread (good quality such as gutermann or rasant)
• Fabric scissors
• Pins and/or clips
• Tape measure
• Chalk, fabric marker or tailor’s pencil
• Seam ripper
• Your basic sewing kit (needles, bobbins, etc.)

You will need to purchase the pattern before class - guidance on purchase will be provided before the workshop and your tutor will print the pattern for you. A small selection of spare sewing equipment will be available if needed.
